Does the premise "haunted submarine during World War II" tempt you at all? What if I told you David Twohy (Pitch Black) directs and he co-wrote it with Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream)? It is an unusual film with a big British and American cast of familiar faces with unfamiliar names. The U.S.S. Tiger Shark takes a couple of British survivors aboard before being pursued by the Germans. As they try to hide in the depths it soon becomes apparent that they have more than the Nazis to worry about. Are they going crazy from lack of oxygen or is the mysteriously missing captain back from his watery grave? This is tense and suspenseful when it works and some of the direction is great, but it's ultimately a bit slow.
