Deadly Blessing

When farmer Jim (Barr, you may remember him from The Fall Guy) is mysteriously crushed to death by his own tractor the local spin-off sect, the Hittites (a stricter version of the Amish) blame his pregnant wife, Martha. Jim was outcast from the group by his grumpy father (Borgnine) who thinks Martha is "incubus" sent to tempt and destroy them all. When Martha's two pretty friends (one of them is Sharon Stone) from the city turn up things get worse and the bodies start to pile up. This is an old Craven film that has never gotten much notice despite a classic eighties cast which also includes Michael Berryman. There are some nice ideas, creepy moments and shock twists that show off his directorial skill and a couple of scenes that you'll recognise reworked and improved in A Nightmare on Elm Street. The story is very silly and you may find yourself getting slightly confused towards the end but you certainly couldn't accuse it of being predictable.
