We've all seen haunted house movies before. How about a haunted child? Insidious is a really atmospheric and tense supernatural thriller that's packed with ghostly action. It comes from the same director and writer partnership as the original Saw and the duo are back on form with this release. There are a couple of original twists on what is essentially a very similar set up to Poltergeist. A couple have lost their child, in this case he won't wake up, and they have to battle ghosts and worse to get him back. The direction and pacing are excellent - you get that involuntary teeth grinding anxiety as the tensions builds and there are a few scares along the way. It also leaves you feeling unsettled and stirs up the temptation to check under your bed before getting in.
