Intruder is an old school slasher flick set in a large supermarket one fateful night. One of the checkout girls has a crazy, violent ex-boyfriend and soon after he gets kicked out for punching her in the nose, the killing begins. The cast are picked off one by one in some amazingly gory sequences which defy expectations considering the obviously low budget. This film is a real curiosity because it features Sam Raimi as a meat counter butcher and his brother Ted makes an appearance too. Scott Spiegel directs, something he has done infrequently over the years (see From Dusk Till Dawn 2), and even in this early film his love of strange angles and inventive shots is clear to see. There is also a ridiculously brief, blink and miss it, cameo from Bruce Campbell at the very end (his prominent billing on the box is very cheeky). The real star of the show is Dan Hicks who you may recognise from Evil Dead II. This is gory, sometimes silly, and ultimately fun slasher action for fans of the genre.

Gore - absolutely brilliant special effects for a couple of seriously gory murder scenes
