This quirky vampire comedy is set in the small town of Purgatory which is a haven for retired vampires. Under the watchful gaze of Mardulak (Dracula) a bunch of vamps have set up home and started a company producing artificial blood. The trouble is, some of the natives are getting restless and a vampire war is brewing. Throw in some unwelcome mortal visitors, including Bruce Campbell as the bumbling descendant of Van Helsing, and sit back to enjoy some of the cheesiest comedy ever committed to celluloid. There are lots of familiar faces here and the camp humour and incredibly hammy acting provide some chuckles. Bruce proves that no-one can outham him despite the best efforts of the villainous Maxwell Caulfield. If you're looking for an actual horror film, then keep looking, this is more like a comedy western which happens to have vampires in it.

Gore - very sparse and played for laughs

Vampires - everyone in Purgatory is a vamp but thanks to sunglasses and sunscreen they can go out in the daylight
