Oliver Reed plays creepy psychiatrist Dr. Hal Raglan and he is engaged in some suspicious techniques as part of the therapy he administers to his patients. When Frank's daughter Candace returns from a weekend visit to see her mother Nola at Dr. Raglan's retreat sporting bruises and scratches he threatens to stop her mother seeing her. A series of suspicious murders follows committed by some frightening child like creatures known as the brood. This is typically bleak, imaginative and scary stuff from Cronenberg. It is a very weird idea but it makes for a tense and disturbing horror film with a subtext about how parents inevitably screw up their children.
