This is an original film about a group of oil company workers in Alaska, when one of the crew begins to lose his mind and insists that something is out in the wilderness with them, environmentalist and outsider James (LeGros) suggests the melting ice is causing the release of some kind of gas that is affecting them all. Team leader Ed (Perlman) is having none of it and things go downhill fast. This is very atmospheric stuff with great characterization and an original plot. It is fairly slow and brooding but it is artfully directed and has a real point to make about mankind's destruction of nature. An intelligent, beautifully filmed and well acted movie with a real haunting quality to it, offers a refreshing change from the usual genre fare.
