A psychologist visits a serial killer in a mental institution to try and understand why he did what he did. We sit in on the interviews and explore his childhood and early murders through a series of flashbacks. The plot and characters are familiar although it's never clear whether the flashbacks are what really happened or just the killer playing mind games with the doctor. What made the film entertaining was the stylish direction as scenes bleed into one another and we are drawn into the warped mind of the killer. There are plenty of murders and the killer favours a straight razor but for some reason the blood is always black. For a low budget effort the acting is excellent and despite the lack of answers in the confused final act this is an enjoyable film.
