Having miraculously survived the last outing in typical horror villain style (with no explanation) Leatherface has a new family but guess what? Yeah that's right he still likes to hunt unsuspecting travellers and carve them up with his chainsaw. This time a young couple encounter him and while escaping they manage to run a survivalist off the road which kicks off a night of desperate stalking for the three. The cast is better than your average horror sequel with appearances from Viggo Mortensen and Ken Foree. The gore is surprisingly muted even in the uncut version and the direction is nothing special. The gritty tension of the original is entirely absent and the muddled plot adds nothing to the series. This is a typical franchise cash-in and while it isn't as bad as part 4 it's not very good either.
